Who We Are

My name is Roger Teasdale and I set up Mercury Fitness in the summer of 2015 in order to launch my new career in Personal Training, Fitness and Health. Having spent 23 years in the army working in telecommunications I felt it was time for a new career path in something I was more passionate about and that I would find more rewarding. I gained my Diploma in Personal Training through study between 2012 and 2014 with Future Fit Training, one of the UK’s leading Fitness and Health training providers.

As well as the PT and Group Exercise Sessions I work in the gym at Sturfit and am a Swimming Teacher for Everyone Active in Blandford.

About Us
As a child I was quite active, always outside with the local kids running about, kicking a ball, racing around on bikes and generally just being outside. I then got into swimming where I competed in the local area for a number of years at club level. I spent a few years in the army cadets before deciding that an army career would be for me (and it also meant I could leave school at 16 and start earning).
I joined the Royal Signals at the Army Apprentices College (Harrogate) in 1992 where I spent two years studying my trade as a telecommunications technician and learning basic soldiering skills.
Army Background
As you would expect in a military career you were always expected to maintain a high level of personal physical fitness. This was fine in the early and later years but there was a period in between where I was injured and really struggled with fitness. I suffered for about 5 years with a back injury – resulting in two operations to remove a shattered disc. During this time it was difficult to do anything and I piled on the weight and lost a lot of fitness. Once I was recovered from the operations I started the long and difficult road back to fitness – it was during this time that I realised that improving people’s fitness and health was something I wanted to pursue in a future career.
Active Lifestyle
My main interest is running and I am quite involved with local running club The Dorset Doddlers, based in the Sturminster Newton area. I regularly compete in local races for them and often assist in the delivery of training sessions.
